Recently, the Wuhan Optics Valley Air Rail Phase I project was put into operation. This is China's first suspended monorail commercial operation line, which is of milestone significance in the development history of China's rail passenger transportation lines. Air track is a folk term for suspended monorail trains. The first phase of the Optics Valley Air Rail Line has a total length of 10.8 km, with 6 stations and fully automatic unmanned operation. The maximum operating speed is 60 km/h, and the formation is flexible. It can have 2 carriages or 3 carriages, each carriage can accommodate more than 110 passengers. The train starts, stops, and runs smoothly and comfortably, without any vibration, impact, or friction noise, without any interference to the environment. It can pass through residential buildings and run late at night, adding a lot of fun to travel and sightseeing. The empty track train uses rubber pneumatic tires and adopts damping technology similar to high-speed rail, such as air springs, which greatly improves the smoothness and comfort of the empty track vehicle. In addition, there are also innovations in the construction of air rail stations, using a bridge construction separation type, where the bridge is completely separated from the station building and the station does not bear the dynamic load of the train.
The suspension carriage used in the Optics Valley air track requires its own weight to be as light as possible, so it is made of lightweight metal materials. Among the four types of metal lightweight materials used today - aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and aluminum based composite materials, aluminum alloy has the highest cost-effectiveness. In order to achieve the lightest goal, the "Optics Valley Photon" carriage is made of all aluminum. The so-called all aluminum manufacturing refers to using aluminum to manufacture all parts that can be made of aluminum alloy under existing technical conditions, while ensuring safety and comfortable riding. The carriage uses aluminum alloys such as 3003, 5083, 6063, 6N61, 7075, and A390, with a body aluminization rate of over 89%, which is currently the highest level.
